Awards season briefly left Hollywood on Sunday night and took us to the BAFTA Awards in London. Voters at this ceremony made some pretty interesting choices, rewarding the Papal thriller Conclave with four prizes, including the coveted best film and outstanding British film awards.
After coming into the night with 12 nods, Conclave lived up to the expectations and took some of the top prizes home. It managed to defeat Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez to win the BAFTAs’ most coveted prize: best film.
Conclave also came out victorious in the outstanding British film category, beating the likes of Bird, Blitz, Gladiator II, Hard Truths, and Kneecap, in addition to winning awards for best adapted screenplay (Peter Straughan) and best editing (Nick Emerson).
The Brutalist matched its number of wins with four BAFTA trophies, including Adrien Brody’s award for the best actor in the leading role. The list of winners in the acting categories also includes Mikey Madison (Anora), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).
The 2025 BAFTA Awards were held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 16, with David Tennant hosting the ceremony for the second year in a row.
