The award season is in full swing right now and the announcement of the Oscar nominations is just a month away. It’s pretty clear which movies are front-runners for a nomination at this point and some of them are already available on Netflix including these three.
The Power of the Dog
Jane Campion’s western about a cold-hearted rancher whose life turns around when his brother brings his new wife home is one of the front-runners in this year’s Oscar race. It’s basically a shoo-in for best picture nod and its stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Kodi Smit-McPhee will most likely be competing in acting categories.
Don’t Look Up
Unlike Adam McKay’s previous films, this satire about two scientists trying to warn humanity of an approaching comet didn’t premiere to rave reviews, but its star-studded cast will most likely get it across the finish line at many awards shows including the Oscars.
This biographical musical chronicles the early years of Jonathan Larson, best known for his work on the rock musical Rent. Andrew Garfield gave a marvelous performance portraying the troubled artist, and many are predicting he’ll get his second Oscar nomination for this role.
