“A Minecraft Movie” Knocks it Out of the Park Records With $301 Million Opening

A Minecraft Movie was a long time coming, and its first week in the theaters was one for the history books. The hotly-anticipated adaptation of the hit video game knocked it out of the park with an epic $301 million global opening and set several domestic records in the process.

A Minecraft Movie exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations during its first weekend in the theaters and topped the international box office with a $301 million global opening. It earned $157 million in North America alone, setting several domestic box office records along the way.

A Minecraft Movie opened with the highest biggest domestic debut of 2025, surpassing Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World with$88 million. It also set the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for a movie based on a video game in North America, previously held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

A Minecraft Movie stars Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen as four misfits, navigating the mysteries of a a cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. They must master this bizarre world alongside an expert crafter named Steve (Jack Black) to find their way back home. 

A Minecraft Movie is based on Mojang Studios’ hit video game which sold over 300 million copies worldwide and holds the record for the best-selling video game of all time.
