It’s been two years since A Simple Favor sequel was first announced, and things are finally moving forward. A Simple Favor 2 will kick off production later this spring, with the majority of the original cast returning, starting with its leads Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

The original film was based on Darcey Bell’s book A Simple Favor, which followed the adventures of a small-town vlogger, as she tries to solve the mystery behind her rich friend’s disappearance. The 2018 black comedy was quite a success for Lionsgate, earning $97 million off a $20 million budget, and they’re co-producing the sequel with Amazon MGM Studios.

A Simple Favor 2 will take place in Capri, Italy, and it will see Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) dealing with murder and betrayal after Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman takes a wild turn.

Along with Kendrick and Lively, this sequel will mark the return of several original cast members, including Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.

Paul Feig will be back in the director’s chair when this sequel kicks off production later this spring. A Simple Favor 2 will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and it remains unclear if it will also get a theatrical release date.
