Adele’s comeback single “Easy on Me” was a long time coming, and she managed to exceed our wildest expectations with this song. It’s one of her most personal and emotional tracks to date, and it serves as the perfect introduction to the themes she’ll explore on her upcoming album 30.

The lyrics of this song see Adele directly addressing her son, and helping him make some sense of her divorce from his father. Just like the rest of her fourth studio album, this song explores two central themes–the pain of separation and the pressures of motherhood.

Since its release on Friday, “Easy on Me” already set new records for the most streams for a song in a single day on Amazon and Spotify. It also debuted at no. 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart only five hours following its release, but it’s expected to surge to no. 1 next week.

“Easy on Me” is Adele’s first song in five years, and it will serve as the lead single from her upcoming album 30, set to hit the shelves on November 19th. She’s yet to release the rest of the tracklist for this record, but she teased another song with Goldfrapp vibe and a piano-heavy ’70s-inspired single during a recent appearance on BBC Radio’s Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
