“Almost Famous” is Coming to Broadway

Kate Hudson and Patrick Fugit in "Almost Famous"

Almost Famous already has an Oscar — and now it’s vying for a Tony!

The semi-autobiographical story by director Cameron Crowe, about a teenage Rolling Stones journalist who goes on tour with a rock band, has been regarded as a cult classic since it was released in 2000.

Crowe wrote the script based on his own experiences touring with rock bands Poco, the Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Producers have now announced that the film starring Kate Hudson, Billy Crudup, and Patrick Fugit will be heading to Broadway.

Crowe will write the script and co-write the lyrics with Tony-winning composer, Tom Kitt, who will write the original score. Jeremy Herrin of Wolf Hall has signed on to direct the production.

It’s all happening…
