It’s been two decades since the last time we’ve seen Anne Hathaway play Mia Thermopolis, but she’s finally ready to reprise one of her most iconic roles. She’s getting ready to portray Genovia’s beloved princess in The Princess Diaries 3, directed by Adele Lim.
Hathaway took to social media to announce her return as Mia Thermopolis and promised that the fairy tale would continue in the third film. She shared the news story announcing Adele Lim as a director and counted to three while the iconic clips from the original The Princess Diaries played in the background.
Hathaway is currently the only cast member officially coming back for the third movie. It’s unclear if any of the other The Princess Diaries franchise actors, including Julie Andrews, Héctor Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman, and Chris Pine, are coming back.
Adele Lim is coming on board as a director of the next The Princess Diaries film, and she’s looking forward to “celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.” She’ll be credited as one of the executive producers alongside Hathaway, her 100 Tigers producing partner Naia Cucukov, and Melissa Stack, while Debra Martin Chase is producing the film.
