Fans of Avatar spent over a decade waiting for its sequel and their patience is finally paying off. The second chapter of this sci-fi adventure is coming to theaters later this year and the masterminds behind it finally revealed its title and dropped the first trailer at CinemaCon.

This highly-anticipated blockbuster will be titled Avatar: The Way of Water and the audience won’t have to wait for too long before seeing the first trailer. It’s set to play in cinemas before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before premiering online, for the whole world to see.

Cameron wasn’t able to attend CinemaCon because he’s shooting in New Zealand, but he took a moment to beam in. He said that the new Avatar movies are “pushing limits even farther with high frame rate, higher resolution 3D and greater reality in [their] visual effects.”

Avatar: The Way of Water will hit the theaters on December 16, and it will be followed by another sequel in 2024, which was filmed simultaneously. The upcoming film will star Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, and Sigourney Weaver.

20th Century Studios greenlit two more Avatar movies and producer Jon Landau said they’ll create “a larger epic saga” while discussing their future at CinemaCon.
