The War of the Roses is getting its modern-day reimagining with Jay Roach at the helm, and he found two perfect leads to headline this adaptation. Oscar winner Olivia Colman will star in The Roses alongside the two-time Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch.

With successful careers, great kids, and enviable love life, Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman) seem to be a picture-perfect couple, but it all comes crashing down when Theo’s professional dreams fall apart, ruining the façade of their perfect family along the way.

Tony McNamara (Poor Things) wrote the script, drawing inspiration from Warren Adler’s novel The War of the Roses, which also inspired the 1989 adaptation led by Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. Adler Entertainment Trust CEO Jonathan R. Adler is looking forward to seeing Roach bring his father’s vision to life.

“Working with our partners at Searchlight Pictures in this reimagining of the classic movie is a dream come true. We are delighted to continue the legacy of our father’s brilliant work and introduce The War of the Roses to a new generation,” said Adler in a statement.

Cumberbatch is fresh of starring in Wes Anderson’s four adaptations of Roald Dahl’s short stories, including the Oscar-winning short The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. As for Colman, she most recently appeared in Wonka and starred in the TV series Great Expectations and Secret Invasion.
