If you didn’t know the rather tragic story of Dan and Betty Broderick, you’re about to.

The pair were college sweethearts who tied the knot in the ‘60s. During their marriage, Betty supported her husband’s journey through both medical and law school, but his affair with an employee finally resulted in a double murder.

The story will form the foundation of the new season of Dirty John.

Eric Bana and Connie Britton helmed the first season of the series based on the true-crime podcast, with the anthology series casting Christian Slater and Amanda Peet in the follow-up installment.

“The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer,” said series creator Alexandra Cunningham. “I can’t wait to see Amanda and Christian bring it to life.”

Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story will also the series move from Bravo to its new home at USA Network.
