Shannen Doherty, the beloved actress who rose to prominence with roles in Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, died at 53. Tributes poured in from her co-stars and peers after she passed away, almost a decade since first being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Doherty died at her home in Malibu, California on July 13, and her publicist Leslie Sloane announced the tragic news. She described her as a “devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend” and said she was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog Bowie before she passed away.
Doherty is one of the biggest TV stars of the 90s, and her rise to prominence started with the role of Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills 90210, which she later reprised in several more projects. She went on to play Prue Halliwell in Charmed, the cult fantasy series she departed at the end of the third season. She also notably starred in TV shows Little House on the Prairie and Our House and films Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Heathers.
Doherty openly spoke about her breast cancer diagnosis since 2015, in an attempt to spread awareness of this disease. Even after her cancer became terminal, she still put a lot of effort into raising funds for cancer research and sharing her story on the Let’s Be Clear podcast.
