Britney Spears knocked us off our feet with her memoir The Woman in Me, and this hit book is getting a Hollywood treatment. Universal Pictures snapped up the rights for this New York Times bestseller, and Jon M. Chu is attached to direct the adaptation.

The Woman in Me has been described as “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope”, which chronicles Spears’s journey to stardom and many challenges she faced over the years, including the years-long fight to break free from a conservatorship that once controlled her life.

Spears signed one of the biggest book deals in history with Gallery Books in 2022, worth $15 million. The Woman in Me hit the shelves about a year later, in October 2023, and became an instant New York Times best-seller, selling 2.5 million copies in the US alone.

This acclaimed memoir is now getting its movie adaptation after Universal Pictures managed to win the rights for Spears’ book. Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu has been tapped to direct it, while Marc Platt will be credited as one of the producers.

Spears confirmed this project is in the works on social media, writing, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with Marc Platt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned”, followed by a rose and a movie camera emoji.
