Being a member of one of the most popular bands in the world, you would think that BTS’ Suga is surrounded by music all the time. However, that’s not quite true since Suga is trying his best to avoid listening to music.
In a recent interview with GQ Australia, Suga revealed that he “used to like music too much” and is now trying to change that in order to be able to “carry on for a long time” as a musician.
“I loved it so much that I tried to like it less. I’m still trying to love it less,” Suga told the magazine.
Suga continued by saying that he now only listens to music when he’s making his own.
“I don’t listen to music unless I’m working on my own music. I keep it as far from me as possible. I seek music only when I need it,” he explained while adding that he made this decision five years ago.
Suga is not only deeply involved in the music BTS makes as a songwriter, but he also takes full creative control for his solo projects. So far, he has released two mixtapes, 2016’s August D and 2020’s D-2, and was credited as writer, composer, and producer on almost every track. Suga also worked with numerous other artists and has written and produced songs for Suran, Lee So-ra, and Epik High, among others.
