This year’s Oscar race is nearing its final stage, and it’s getting more intense and unpredictable by the day. The SAG Awards is the latest ceremony to set the stage for the rest of award seasons, and it brought many unpredictable moments as The Trial of the Chicago 7 picked up the top award.
Aaron Sorkin’s legal drama managed to beat the likes of Da 5 Bloods, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Minari, and One Night in Miami to pick up the award for the best cast in a motion picture. The Chicago 7 cast member Michael Keaton became the first person with three film ensemble wins, including the SAG trophies for Birdman (2014) and Spotlight (2015).
The Crown dominated the TV categories with two wins, including outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series and best female actor in a drama series for Gillian Anderson. Schitt’s Creek was the biggest winner in the comedy field—in addition to winning the award for best cast in a comedy series, Catherine O’Hara was also named as the best female actor in a comedy series.
The 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on April 4th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
