Chris Hemsworth is already one of the biggest action stars of his generation, and he’s gearing up to join another hit franchise. Marvel superstar is circling Paramount Pictures’ untitled Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie.
The crossover between these two Hasbro toy franchises has been brewing ever since Transformers: Rise of the Beasts came out. One of the film’s final scenes sees an operative named Agent Burke (Michael Kelly) handing a card to Anthony Ramos’ Noah Diaz, which reveals he works for the G.I. Joe program.
The merger of these two franchises felt like a natural progression to the producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who dropped some hints about the potential crossover at the Rise of the Beasts premiere.
“It didn’t feel like we were being cynical and like, ‘Good news, we could just jam G.I. Joes in here.’ If we do it and we don’t figure it out well, they’re going to be disappointed. It took us a while to figure out the Maximals, and now we have the hint of how to begin the Joes’ story,” Di Bonaventura told Variety.
Chris Hemsworth emerged as a potential leading man of this franchise, but this won’t be his first Transformers film. He’ll voice Optimus Prime in the upcoming prequel Transformers One, which will be released by Paramount Pictures on September 20.
