After years in the making, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is finally coming to Disney+ in just a few months. The streaming giant gave us a glimpse of this highly-anticipated fantasy series, which chronicles the origin story of our favorite demigod Percy Jackson.

Based on Rick Riordan’s hit series of novels, Percy Jackson and the Olympians shows the titular hero coming to terms with his newfound powers after discovering he’s a demigod. Percy’s life turns upside down after the all-mighty Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt, and he now must go the extra mile to restore order to Olympus.

This series will be led by relative newcomers Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Glover Underwood. The list of its guest stars is pretty impressive and includes the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Glynn Turman, and the late Lance Reddick.

Rick Riordan’s novels have previously been adapted into two films starring Logan Lerman, but the author is promising a more faithful adaptation this time around. He’s been working with Disney+ from the get-go and serves as the show’s executive producer.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere on Disney+ on December 20, and the first season will feature a total of eight episodes.
