Emily in Paris became an overnight sensation thanks to its escapist quality and cheerful vibe, and its viewership numbers reflect its popularity. According to Netflix, this was the most popular comedy series on their streaming service in 2020.

With 58 million households tuning in to watch in the first 28 days following the series’ launch, Emily in Paris has easily beaten its competition.

Creator and executive producer Darren Star said he couldn’t be more proud of its success, and he’s excited to bring even more joy to their fans in the upcoming second season, which began production in the French capital. “From the beginning, we always wanted to create this beautiful cinematic view of Paris. The timing of the series release was fortuitous for us as everyone around the world was able to become armchair travelers and live vicariously through our cast,” said Star in a statement.

Emily in Paris centers on a young ambitious American woman who moves to Paris to work at a French marketing firm and tries to improve it by bringing an American point of view. Lily Collins plays the titular role, while the rest of the cast includes Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy Beaulieu, and Lucas Bravo.
