Gaten Matarazzo Talks “Stranger Things” Season 4 Theories

Gaten Matarazzo in "Stranger Things"

Gaten Matarazzo, who stars in Netflix’s Stranger Things and hosts Prank Encounters, discussed some of his favorite fan theories on Stranger Things Season 4 with Variety.

The third season of Stranger Things aired on Netflix in June. This time, the town of Hawkins is threatened with evil Russian scientists. Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and Will’s mom Joyce (Winona Ryder), along with the rest of the youngsters, save the day, but their victory against the Upside Down cost a high price. So much so that many of the characters decide to leave the town.

Season 3 left fans with many unanswered questions, which led viewers to speculate about what’s next for the cast.

Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, told Variety he likes to indulge in fan theories, “They’re all interesting. My favorite theory is that Suzie’s actually a Russian mastermind and spy working with the Russian government. I think it’s so stupid and so funny. I hope that doesn’t play out because that would be weird.”

So what does Matarazzo see for Dustin’s future?

“It’s really hard to say because I don’t really know where the characters are going. He’s flapping in the wind at this point. At the end of the season, all the kids are divided because everyone moves away from Hawkins. Eleven goes with Will and Joyce to go try and find some type of peace and the rest of the gang stays behind. I don’t necessarily know how that’s going to work. I mean Mike and El being separated is crazy. I think fans are going to freak out,” Matarazzo said.

No release date has been set for Season 4, but production is set to begin in January.
