Harry Styles’ third solo album is about a month away and he gave us a taste of things to come with the lead single “As It Was”. This song became an overnight sensation following its release and easily topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“As It Was” hit No. 1 with 43.8 million streams, 27.2 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 10,300 downloads in the US in the week following its release. It’s the second time that Styles topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart—he previously hit No. 1 with “Watermelon Sugar” in 2020.

The triumph of “As It Was” is also pretty interesting since it’s the first song since the beginning of 2022 to debut at No. 1. The list of previous chart-topping singles includes Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas”, Adele’s “Easy On Me”, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto, and Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves”.

“As It Was” will be featured on Style’s upcoming third solo studio album Harry’s House, set to be released on May 20. He described it as “the song about metamorphosis, embracing change and former self”, and said it was inspired by his personal experiences, especially during lockdowns, which allowed him to make his new album “from a very liberated place”.
