Armando Iannucci found enormous success with his satirical HBO comedy Veep, and its spiritual successor is just around the corner. HBO gave his new show The Franchise a green light, and Himesh Patel and Aya Cash are the latest actors joining its star-studded cast.

The Franchise hails from Iannucci, screenwriter Jon Brown, and the Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, and it will offer a wry look at superhero movie-making. According to Deadline, it centers on a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of a superhero franchise, trying to find their place in an unruly cinematic universe.

Himesh Patel and Aya Cash are the latest stars to join this project, but its cast was pretty impressive even before they hopped on board. The Franchise will also star Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, Isaac Powell, Richard E. Grant, and Daniel Brühl.

HBO’s Amy Gravitt praised Mendes for brilliantly capturing the romance and the reality of filmmaking today in an official statement regarding the show’s pick-up. She said the team behind this comedy “delivered a truly hilarious comedy ensemble”, but we’ll have to wait a while to see this show since the production won’t resume until the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes are over.
