Anne Heche, who spent the last three decades paving her way through Hollywood with her multi-faceted roles, passed away at 53. The Daytime-Emmy-winning actress died from the consequences of a tragic car crash, and many of her fellow stars mourned her death and sent condolences to her family.

Heche was in critical condition after a devastating car crash on August 5, and her representatives said she wasn’t expected to survive. She was declared legally dead on August 12 and was left on life support until the hospital found a suitable organ recipient since she expressed a wish to be an organ donor.

Heche’s family confirmed her passing in an official statement and said she’ll continue to have a lasting impact for always standing in her truth and spreading her message of love and acceptance.

“We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.”

Heche rose to prominence during the late 80s when she starred in the soap opera Another World, for which she won a Daytime Emmy award. Her filmography also included roles in movies Donnie Brasco, Volcano, Six Days, Seven Nights, and Return to Paradise and TV shows Men in Trees, Hung, Aftermath, and Gracie’s Choice, for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
