We’ve seen many formidable characters fight for the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones, and its prequel will continue this legacy. The first teaser trailer for Season 2 of House of the Dragon is here, and it gives us first glimpses of the Dance of the Dragons.

The Dance of the Dragons is the war for succession that ensued between the two rivaling clans of House Targaryen. The first season introduced us to all the main players and set the stage for the things to come, before concluding with King Viserys’ death.

Now that he’s out of the picture, two fractions of his family are trying to secure their righteous place on the throne—one led by his firstborn daughter and heir apparent, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and another led by his wife Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who has support in her father Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).

Season 2 will also star Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney. They’ll be joined by several newcomers to the franchise, starting with Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, and Abubakar Salim

House of the Dragon will return for its second season in mid-2024, with Ryan Condal serving as its sole showrunner.
