How to Train Your Dragon is DreamWorks Animation’s first film to get a live-action remake, and we finally know what its new version will look like. The first trailer for this film is taking us to the rugged island of Berk, where we’ll be reunited with the epic duo Hiccup and Toothless.

How to Train Your Dragon is loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s series of novels, which inspired a successful animated film franchise. It will take us to the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations.

“The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society,” reads the film’s official logline.

Dean DeBlois, who directed the animated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, returned to direct its live-action version. Mason Thames leads its cast as Hiccup, and he’ll be joined by Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, and Gerard Butler in supporting roles.

How to Train Your Dragon is coming to theaters on June 13, 2025, and it will be released by Universal Pictures.
