The second season of How I Met Your Father ended its run this summer, and it will serve as the show’s final chapter. Hulu announced their decision to cancel the How I Met Your Mother spin-off starring Hilary Duff after two seasons.

How I Met Your Father had a similar premise as the original show, but it focused on a new group of characters, navigating love and friendship during the 2020s. The story centered on Sophie Tompkins, who tells her son the story of how she met his father many years ago.

Hilary Duff and Kim Cattrall played the younger and older version of Sophie, while the members of her close-knit group of friends were portrayed by Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, and Suraj Sharma. Several cast members from the original series also made cameos in the spin-off, including Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris.

Executive producer Craig Thomas reflected on the show’s cancelation on X (formerly known as Twitter) and thanked everyone who brought this series to life.

“Thanks to the wonderful cast and crew who worked so hard on How I Met Your Father, and to all who checked it out, sometimes this is how it goes in this crazy business,” wrote Thomas.
