Hulu has dropped the first trailer for the satirical period piece, The Great, which stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult.
The Great is very loosely based on historical facts and Fanning plays Catherine the Great who comes into the Russian monarch through marriage and goes on to become Russia’s longest-reigning leader. Catherine is married to Emperor Peter (Hoult), who describes himself as “the most loved ruler in all of Russian history” while dead bodies are seen hanging behind him.
From the trailer, we can also see that Emperor Peter gets a laugh from throwing fruit at servants and that he enjoys hunting for rabbits while screaming “rabbit!” when he catches one.
The series is written by Tony Mcnamara, the Oscar-nominated co-writer of another period piece, The Favourite.
Also starring in The Great are Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow.
The Great will be released on Hulu on May 15, but for now, you can watch the trailer below.
