Idris Elba is not throwing away his (Dead)shot.
The Luther star has been cast in the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad as Deadshot — the role previously portrayed by Will Smith.
Variety reported that the Aladdin actor would not be able to reprise his role as the assassin in the DC flick due to scheduling conflicts.
With Deadshot playing such a key role in the story, Warner Bros. was determined to find a suitable replacement and have now earmarked Elba.
The Brit has three productions lined up this year — The Fast and the Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, the big screen adaptation of Cats, and the Netflix series Turn Up Charlie — but should be available by the time filming for The Suicide Squad begins filming in September.
The James Gunn film currently has a release date of August 6th, 2021.
