Imelda Staunton is Ready to Step Into the Queen’s Shoes on “The Crown”

We’ve been dying to see Imelda Staunton play Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown ever since her casting was announced back in January, and we finally know what her reign will look like. The first look image at the new season of the Netflix drama is here and it shows Staunton stepping into the Queen’s shoes.

An early glimpse of the new Queen sees Staunton pursing her lips with a reserved looking on her face while rocking the Queen’s signature hairstyle, a string of pearls, and a yellow blouse. She’s taking on the mantle from Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, and she’s admitted that it’s quite challenging to play a more current version of the British monarch.

“I’m now doing the Queen that we’re a little more familiar with. With Claire Foy, it was almost history and now I’m playing one that people could say ‘she doesn’t do that,’ ‘she’s not like that,’ and that’s my personal bête noire,” the Oscar-nominated actress told BBC.

Staunton will be in pretty good company when a new season of The Crown premieres on Netflix in 2022. The cast will also include Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and Dominic West as Prince Charles.
