Years after the Harry Potter series came to an end, our favorite authoress is still offering us insight into the magical world and the characters we love.

One such character is the embodiment of wisdom — Albus Dumbledore.

We have now gotten to know a different side to the Hogwarts headmaster as Jude Law portrays a younger version in the Fantastic Beasts series which also stars the evil object of his affection, Gellert Grindelwald.

In a featurette for the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald DVD, J.K. Rowling shared her take on the relationship between the two characters she created.

“Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship,” she said. “But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows, really, what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know. So I’m less interested in the sexual side — though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship — than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”

If only it hadn’t all ended so badly…
