Jake Gyllenhaal and Antoine Fuqua already proved they’re a match made in heaven while working on Southpaw, and they’re getting ready to join forces again. Gyllenhaal will play the lead role in Fuqua’s upcoming project The Guilty.

Based on the critically acclaimed Danish film Den Skyldige, this intense thriller takes place over the course of a single day and centers on a dispatch call operator who finds himself in a difficult position after answering an emergency call from a kidnapped woman.

Gyllenhaal’s production company Nine Stories bought the American rights for this film all the way in 2018, but it took some to get it off the ground and find the perfect director. “I couldn’t be more excited to work with Antoine again. Our time together on Southpaw was one of the great artistic experiences of my career, and I cannot wait to be back on set with him again. The Guilty is a special story, and one that we all feel very close to,” said Gyllenhaal in a statement.

The script for the project was written by Nic Pizzolatto, and it’s expected to start shooting this November in a single location in Los Angeles.
