Jim Carrey is one of the favorite comedic actors of ‘90s kids, but it’s been years since he starred in a major studio movie. The Golden Globe winner is finally ready to turn things around! He’ll make a comeback as the main villain, Dr. Robotnik, in Sonic the Hedgehog.

Carrey has been focusing on his other artistic pursuits lately, so acting had to take a back seat. Criticizing his own movie didn’t do him any favors and that’s just what he did before Kick-Ass 2 came out. The Dumb and Dumber star said he “cannot support that level of violence” and refused to promote it. All of his movies flopped after that and Sonic the Hedgehog will be his most solid shot at redemption.

Carrey played a couple of colorful characters in his day, so it’s not difficult to picture him as a mad scientist hell-bent on world domination. His casting shows promise, but fans of the game are worried, nevertheless. This is the first time in history someone tried to bring Sonic the Hedgehog to the big screen. The movie will blend both live-action and CGI, so it’s hard to say if it will work out or not. It certainly seems like a game changer, but we won’t know for sure until it premieres in November next year.
