John Boyega’s Star Wars journey came to an end last year, but he has several exciting movies on the way. The latest project he added to his busy schedule is the promising psychological thriller The Test, to be directed by Gavin Hood.

Based on the novella by Sylvain Neuvel, The Test centers on a soft-spoken immigrant (Payman Maadi) taking a citizen evaluation test supervised by a brilliant young behavioral psychologist (Boyega). What was supposed to be a simple test turns into a matter of life and death after an unexpected turn of events.

Hood described his next film as “a heart-pounding psychological thriller, set in an authoritarian near-future that grabbed me by the throat and left me reeling.”

The Test isn’t Boyega’s only promising project coming our way. We’ll next get to see him in the Steve McQueen-directed anthology series Small Axe, set to premiere this fall. He’s also attached to several more movies, including Naked Singularity and Borderland.
