Marvel’s The Fantastic Four will be one star-studded affair, and another A-list star just joined the gang. The three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner is the latest star to hop on board, and she’s gearing up to play Shalla-Bal, a female version of Silver Surfer.

The Silver Surfer was the main villain in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, when it was portrayed by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne. This was a completely different version of the famous Marvel villain, and Garner’s character Shalla-Bal was portrayed as his lover and the empress of Zenn-La in the comics.

Garner will be in pretty good company on the set of this Marvel movie, which hails from director Matt Shakman. Its cast will also include Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm aka the Thing.

Garner is best known as the star of the Netflix crime drama Ozark, which earned her three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. She most recently starred in the Netflix limited series Inventing Anna and the psychological thriller The Royal Hotel, and will next be seen in the supernatural horror film Wolf Man.
