Billy Mitchell – A Bad Guy Or Misunderstood?

If you loved the classic arcade game Donkey Kong, then King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is an essential documentary from 2007. Billy Mitchell will do anything to stay in top position, but Steve Wiebe is nipping at his heels.

This drama-filled documentary ended with one winner, but the joy(stick) of victory was short-lived. Rumors of cheating and personal resentments amongst the players kept us fascinated long after the winner was crowned.

SPOILER ALERT COMING UP…

Steve Wiebe lost his title of Donkey Kong champion shortly before the documentary aired in 2007, he appeared to be on top in 2010 but was pipped to the post by newcomer, Hank Chien.

Steve continues to teach Math at Redmond High School in Washington State while making cameo appearances in Horrible Bosses and Sneaky Pete.

The baddie of the show and Wiebe’s rogue rival, Billy Mitchell, who was later accused of cheating is having a more difficult time since the competition ended.

After a damning investigation proved he was playing on an emulator, Twin Galaxies (who track video game World records), officially stripped Mitchell of his high scores and titles. He continues to claim innocence.
