We can always count on Lady Gaga to give us conceptual and aesthetically masterful music videos, and the video for her latest single “911” is no different. It’s truly a wild ride, and you have to pay close attention to every second to fully grasp how amazing it is.

“911” opens with Gaga waking up in the middle of the desert next to a broken bicycle. She notices a figure dressed in black riding a dark horse on the horizon. The mystery person lures her out of the desert and into an epic mission that has to be seen to be believed.

The music video for “911” was directed by Tarsem Singh, and it’s based on an idea he came up with 25 years ago. Lady Gaga described this visual as “the poetry of pain” and thanked the director for sharing his vision with her.

“This short film is very personal to me, my experience with mental health and the way reality and dreams can interconnect to form heroes within us and all around us … Something that was once my real life everyday is now a film, a true story that is now the past and not the present,” wrote Lady Gaga on Instagram.
