Ray Donovan ended its run earlier this year, and it seems like great things are ahead for its star Liev Schreiber. He landed the lead role in Across the River and Into the Trees, the upcoming adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s novel of the same name.

Schreiber will take on the role of Richard Cantwell, an American officer stationed in Northern Italy during the closing days of World War II. In addition to detailing his wartime experiences, the film will show him facing the news of a terminal heart condition and starting a star-crossed romance with a young countess.

In addition to Schreiber, this project will also star Italian actress Matilda De Angelis (The Prize), Laura Morante (Cherry On The Cake), Javier Camara (Truman), and Oscar-nominated Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini (Seven Beauties).

Across the River and Into the Trees is based on the screenplay by Peter Flannery, and it will be directed by Paula Ortiz. The shooting will start in Venice and the surrounding areas next month.
