Armie Hammer and Lily James in "Rebecca"

Netflix has several intriguing projects coming our way this fall, including Ben Wheatley’s adaptation of Rebecca. The first trailer for this romantic thriller is here, and it shows Lily James and Armie Hammer delivering the most intense performances of their careers.

Rebecca is based on Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel of the same name, and it follows a newly married young woman trying to start a new life at her husband’s family estate. The only obstacle to their happiness is his dead wife Rebecca, whose memory haunts the house long after her death.

This isn’t the first adaptation of Maurier’s iconic novel. It was brought to the big screen on several occasions in the past, most famously by Alfred Hitchcock. His 1940 adaptation starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine won two Oscars, including best picture.

Wheatley’s adaptation could also be an Oscar contender after it premieres on Netflix on October 21st. In addition to James and Hammer, it also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd.
