Madonna is no stranger to attracting a huge crowd, but she took things to a whole new level with a recent free concert in Brazil. 1.6 million people showed up to hear her sing at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, helping her break a major record along the way.

Madonna spent the past few months touring the world, and she found a perfect way to wrap up her career-spanning The Celebration Tour. Back in late March, she announced its final concert would be held on May 4 at Copacabana Beach and described it as her “biggest gig yet”.

The Queen of Pop wanted to thank her fans “for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour” and that’s why she made this concert 100% free.

This proved to be one of the best decisions she made during The Celebration Tour, and her fans welcomed it with open arms. She was greeted by a crowd of over a million people when she hit the stage at Copacabana Beach, telling the audience, “Here we are in the most beautiful place in the world. This place is magic.”

City officials reported that 1.6 million people showed up to watch Madonna perform her biggest hits alongside special guests Anitta and Pabllo Vittar. This number is quite historic, and it set a new record for the largest concert by a standalone artist.
