Mariah Carey is already an unofficial Christmas queen thanks to her holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Now, Carey is looking to strengthen her claim to the throne by teaming up with Apple TV+ for a unique holiday special.
The streaming platform recently announced Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which will feature Carey in a starring role and take the viewers on “a magical holiday journey to enliven the Christmas spirit around the world.” According to Apple, the special will air during this year’s holiday season and will feature a “star-studded lineup of surprise guest appearances.”
The special, which also marks the 25th anniversary since “All I Want for Christmas is You” was first released, will combine music, dancing, and animation “driven by a universally heartwarming story that brings the world together.”
Mariah Carey’s association with Christmas isn’t just tied with “All I Want for Christmas is You,” as the popular singer also released two holiday-themed full-length studio albums in the past. The first one was Merry Christmas from 1994, while the second, titled Merry Christmas II You, was released in 2010. Carey also hosted several specials and had numerous TV appearances during Christmas time.
