Melissa McCarthy is Being Considered for “The Little Mermaid”

Melissa McCarthy knows that it’s better down where it’s wetter.

The Can You Ever Forgive Me? actress is reportedly in negotiations to star in the upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid.

Disney has already given several of its animated classics the live-action treatment, including Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

Based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson, the film — which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year — follows mermaid Ariel and her friends Sebastian and Flounder on her quest to gain the affection of human Prince Eric.

Putting an ore in her way is sea witch Ursula which is the part McCarthy is being considered for.

Rob Marshall, who recently helmed Mary Poppins Returns, will be directing the remake which is set to include the classic songs from the original as well as new tunes created by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken.
