It’s been almost three decades since the last time we’ve seen Michael Keaton play Batman, and he’s getting ready to don the cape again. He’s set to return to this role in the upcoming superhero flick Batgirl after appearing as Bruce Wayne in The Flash.

Batgirl is set to be released by HBO Max in 2022, and it will follow the adventures of Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl. Leslie Grace will take on the lead role, and she’ll be joined by J. K. Simmons as James Gordon and Brendan Fraser as Garfield Lynns aka Firefly.

The news of Keaton’s involvement comes shortly after it was announced he’s set to appear in The Flash alongside Ezra Miller. He recently discussed his comeback with Variety and admitted he often wondered what it would be like to return to the role, but he didn’t want to do it until it made sense.

“Just because I was curious didn’t mean I wanted to do it. So it took a long time, frankly… I’m not just gonna say I’ll do it. It has to be good. And there has to be a reason,” he explained.

Keaton previously played the Dark Knight in Tim Burton’s 1989 film Batman and its 1992 follow-up Batman Returns, and his version of the character went down in history as one of the all-time favorites.
