After years in the making, Moana 2 is finally hitting the theaters this fall, and all eyes are on its first official trailer. The viral promo video attracted 178 million views in its first 24 hours, making history as Disney’s most-watched animated trailer on its first day of release.

Moana 2 will reunite us with Moana and Maui three years after the events of the first film, and it will see them embark on an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers.

“After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced,” reads the film’s official logline.

Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will return as voices of Moana and Maui, and they’ll be joined by Temuera Morrison and Nicole Scherzinger as Moana’s parents Tui and Sina, and Alan Tudyk as her pet rooster Heihei.

The first full trailer for Moana 2 hit the shelves on May 29, and attracted 178 million views in its first 24 hours, across Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X, and YouTube. This makes it the most-watched trailer for a Disney animated movie in a single day, breaking the record held by Inside Out 2 with 157 million views.

Moana 2 will be released in theatres on November 27, before streaming on Disney+ at a later date.
