Jared Leto will return to his dark roots in his next role as Morbius the vampire supervillain.
Based on the 1971 comic books created by Rob Thomas and Gil Kan, the “origin story follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood,” according to Variety.
Morbius has appeared throughout the Marvel Universe, with his first appearance in the 1971 The Amazing Spider-Man and in the 1992 series Morbius, the Living Vampire.
The movie will star, in addition to Leto, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson. The script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
