The Lion King remake was such a huge hit that it was just a matter of time before Disney revisited this story, and that moment is finally here. The first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King is here, and it reveals the prequel’s star-studded voice cast.

The prequel will be told in flashbacks, and it will tell the origin story of Simba’s father Mufasa. He’s a lost and alone orphaned cub, whose chance encounter with a sympathetic royal lion Taka set in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny and testing their bonds along the way.

Mufasa: The Lion King will mark the return of several voice actors from The Lion King remake, including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé. Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, and Lennie James also star, while Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter is set to make her acting debut.

The Oscar-winning Moonlight director Barry Jenkins directed this project, while Jeff Nathanson wrote the script and Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the songs for the soundtrack. Mufasa: The Lion King was initially supposed to hit the theatres this summer, but its release date was pushed to December 20.
