Fans of Julie and the Phantoms spent over a year hoping that the show will be picked up for another season, but that moment never came. After months of uncertainty, it was finally announced that Netflix canceled the beloved show after a single season.

The cancelation was announced by executive producer Kenny Ortega, who also took a moment to send love and endless thanks to “Fantoms all over the world for the tremendous outpouring of love and support”.

“We learned this week that Netflix will not be picking us up for another season. Although our hearts are saddened, we move on with such pride for what we accomplished as a team and the family we built while creating Julie,” wrote Ortega on social media.

Julie and the Phantoms draws inspiration from the Brazilian TV show of the same name, and it premiered on Netflix back in September 2020. Fans have been calling for its renewal ever since, but Netflix never shared any official info about its future until now.

This musical-comedy centered on a teenage girl who summons the spirit of boy band The Phantoms and becomes their lead singer after a creative block. The series starred Madison Reyes, Charlie Gillespie, Owen Patrick, and Joyner Jeremy Shada.
