Netflix’s Sci-Fi Epic “3 Body Problem” to End With Season 3

3 Body Problem blew everyone’s mind when it premiered on Netflix earlier this year, and the streamer is betting big on its future. Shortly after Netflix announced its renewal, the creators of this sci-fi epic revealed they’re planning a three-season arc.

3 Body Problem draws inspiration from Cixin Liu’s book series, which sees humanity coming into first contact with an alien civilization due to a faithful decision made by a young woman in 1960s China. Its effects still linger decades later, bringing together a group of brilliant scientists, who must confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.

David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo created this series for Netflix, and they discussed its future during a recent Television Academy panel at the Netflix FYSEE space. They revealed their plan to “tell this story through to its epic conclusion”, announcing it would feature a total of three seasons, matching the number of books in Liu’s series.

This announcement comes shortly after Netflix announced they’ve picked up additional episodes of this series, without revealing how many seasons it would have. Season 1 premiered on March 21 and featured eight episodes, led by Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, and Jess Hong.
