The CW has canceled more shows than we can count this year and the list is getting longer as we speak. The Flash is the latest victim of the network’s cancelation streak, and it’s set to end its run with its ninth season next year.

The Flash quickly grew into one of the network’s runaway hits following its premiere in 2014. It served as a spinoff of the hit show Arrow and helped launch the Arrowverse by telling the story of Barry Allen, who gains superhuman speed after being struck by lightning and becomes a superhero known as The Flash.

Grant Gustin signed a one-year deal with The CW back in January, hinting he’s returning as Barry Allen for one more race. We now know this will be his last run as The Flash, as the final season of the show is expected to premiere in 2023 and feature a total of 13 episodes.

Showrunner Eric Wallace confirmed the show’s cancelation in an official statement, stating that “Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race.” He also thanked the phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world over the years.
