Robert Eggers is one of Hollywood’s new masters of horror, and his version of Nosferatu has been a long time coming. The first full trailer for this highly-anticipated remake is here, and it sees Lily-Rose Depp getting haunted by Bill Skarsgård.
Focus Features’ official logline describes Nosferatu as “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
Skarsgård will lead this project in the role of Count Orlok aka Nosferatu, and he went through quite a transformation to play this character, losing weight, changing his vocal range, and spending hours in the prosthetic makeup chair. He said that playing this role felt like “conjuring pure evil”, adding it took him a while to shake the demon off.
In addition to Skarsgård, the star-studded cast of Nosferatu will also include Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe.
Eggers directed the film and wrote the script, drawing inspiration from the German silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. They’re both loosely based on Bram Stoker’s beloved horror classic Dracula.
Nosferatu will be released by Focus Features on December 25.
