Beef became such a huge hit that Netflix decided to continue its run in the form of an anthology series, and Season 2 seems pretty promising thus far. Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan are reportedly eying lead roles in the next chapter of this black comedy series.
Netflix is yet to confirm the casting of Isaac and Mulligan, but Deadline reports they’re in negotiations to star in this project. Season 2 will reportedly center on two feuding couples, and Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Anne Hathaway were previously circling the second season before the most recent casting news hit the fan.
Isaac and Mulligan would be the perfect duo to lead Season 2 because they have an already established dynamic. They previously co-starred in Joel and Ethan Coen’s critically acclaimed musical dramedy Inside Llewyn Davis, which gave Isaac his big break.
Beef creator Lee Sung Jin repeatedly said he’s open to bringing Beef back for another season and telling a “fulfilling, boundary-pushing, and truthful” story with a new cast.
“It’s too early to say where things will head. I’m just trying to remain as open as possible and am mentally ready to tap into whatever lane I need to, because unfortunately there are beefs everywhere you look, and definitely not a shortage of material to pull from,” he told Deadline.
