Elizabeth Taylor was regarded by some as the most beautiful woman in Hollywood, meaning that anyone who ever portrayed her would have large shoes to fill.

But that person has now been found.

Rachel Weisz will be playing the late Oscar winner in a biopic about her life.

Simon Beaufoy, who penned Slumdog Millionaire, has been hired to write the script for A Special Relationship which will focus on Taylor’s life in the mid-1980s, following her film career, in which she turned to activism for HIV/AIDS awareness.

“Audiences are clearly fascinated by the private lives of iconic Hollywood stars. There is no one more iconic than Elizabeth Taylor and Simon Beaufoy has written a role that shines a light on Elizabeth’s humour and humanity which will be beautifully brought to life through the extraordinary talents of Rachel Weisz,” See-Saw Films’ Canning and Sherman said in a statement. “At its heart, A Special Relationship is a story of friendship … a celebration of how friendships can change people’s lives, and how Elizabeth helped change the world.”

Directing duo, Bert & Bertie, who brought us Troop Zero will helm the film.
