DC Comics fans received some exciting news earlier this year when J.J. Abrams confirmed he is producing a new Superman feature. The details about the movie are scarce, but several names are being considered to fill the directing chair, with actress-turned-director Regina King (One Night in Miami…) being among the favorites.

Surprisingly, King didn’t comment on any of these reports and has kept a low profile while her name was linked with the project. This made many believe that the Academy Award-winner isn’t all that interested in exploring the Superman universe, but it turns out that she didn’t even know she was in the running.

King recently made an appearance on MSNBC and was asked whether she is on the shortlist to helm the Superman movie. The American Crime star was genuinely surprised by the question and said that that is the first time she heard something about it.

“You have broke the news to me. A news break, live on MSNBC,” said King. “Yeah, no, I had not heard that until just now. Oh, wow.”

King didn’t want to comment further on the matter and didn’t reveal whether she would be willing to take the project if offered.

The new Superman movie is still in the early stages of development, but we already know that Ta-Nehisi Coates will serve as a writer. Coates previously worked as a journalist for The Atlantic and wrote Black Panther and Captain America comics for Marvel.
